Windows asking for password for network computer

I then killed the session on the win10 machine who's name is win10 btw and my session on my machine and then tried again to connect and got prompted. I did not put anything in username field and access it just fine So as you can see here my computer is called i5-w7, and that is what is listed as domain. It doesn't matter its just looking for username and password.Īs you can see from screenshots I can send complete gibberish for domain/computer name and it still worksįor all we know the use was putting in the wrong freaking password and then when saw this he typed it in correctly and WOW this works When it has NOTHING to do with it!! It can only look in its local database of users, does not care if the domain is whatever or something or its correct name. I went and deleted Jakenas from credential manager and now when clicking on it it just says windows cannot access \\JAKENAS check the spelling of the name, etc.Not a bug its understanding how it works!! Did you already have a session open with guest? if a machine is member of workgroup not a member of domain then the domain name of the user account is completely meanless to that machine. It automatically defaults to Root and asks for a password. Now it is asking for a username and password. When I click on this I used to be able to access all my server folders without logging in. So, if I then go into file explorer on my PC and go down to "Network" the server "Jakenas" will then appear under Computers. My actual unraid server is called Jakenas I guess (not really sure where I even changed that). If I go to a browser and type the ip address of my server it then will bring up a prompt to login and this is my user name "root" and password. I don't really think I am using the root user. Go to Credential Manager and delete the credential for your server so Windows can renegotiate it. You really shouldn't use the root user for accessing shares over the network anyway, though it should work (as a guest) assuming you are only trying to access a share with Public access.
